Call for Submissions

We are an artist-run centre that is committed to presenting contemporary, innovative artwork, and our gallery is especially suited to experimental practices that can make use of an alternative DIY space. We are seeking submissions from artists or curators across all visual arts disciplines.

Exhibitions run for 10 weeks, and artists will have up to one week for installation.

While we do not have the resources to provide CARFAC artist fees, we offer a $100 honorarium for the exhibition. Note that this is for both solo and group exhibitions.

Family Drugs Gallery will additionally offer support in the form of:

  • Exhibit planning and curatorial support. Family Drugs Collective will work with the artists and make studio visits leading up to the opening to plan the exhibition.

  • Exhibition install and dismantle. Family Drugs Collective will support, or entirely oversee the installation and dismantle of the artwork.

  • Plan and oversee an opening and/or closing event for the exhibition.

  • Promote the exhibition and all events associated with the exhibition.

  • Photo documentation of the exhibition.

Artists Expectations:

  • Artists are responsible for transportation of artwork to and from the gallery

  • Artists are responsible for any non-standard installation equipment or materials required for the exhibition. (Standard exhibition materials include screws, nails, hammer, drill, level, etc.)

  • Artists are welcome to make changes to the space for their exhibition (i.e. painting walls or floors) but are required to provide any needed materials and resources to restore the space after their exhibition.

Eligibility

Individual or group shows are welcome to apply. Artists from any and all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including emerging, mid-career or established artists, artists who have systemically faced oppression including artists who are BIPOC, 2LGBTQ+, and Disabled. Artists from any geographical region are welcome to apply but should note that we do not have funds to support travel, accommodations, shipping or any fees associated with presenting an out-of-town exhibition. Edmonton-based artists will be given priority.

Selection Process

Applications are reviewed and selected by Family Drugs Collective: a group of 8 artists with diverse practices, generations, and career stages. Exhibitions will be selected based on quality and artistic merit, suitability for the requirements of our space, and compatibility with our organization’s mission to foster a unique arts community in downtown Edmonton.

Family Drugs Gallery is pleased to announce our first open call for exhibitions for the 2026-2027 season.
